RtlStudio Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 12, 2026
RtlStudio is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data, emphasizing our secure, local-first architecture.
1. Local-First Execution (WASM Architecture)
RtlStudio is built on WebAssembly (WASM) technology. All core functionalities—including code editing, syntax linting, synthesis, and simulation—are executed entirely locally within your browser’s secure sandbox.
- We do not upload, execute, or process your hardware design codes (Verilog/SystemVerilog) on our servers during standard operation.
- Your intellectual property remains strictly on your local machine unless explicitly saved or shared.
2. Cloud Storage (Slot Saving)
We only collect and store your design code on our databases when you explicitly initiate an upload action:
- Saving to a Slot: When you click ‘Save’ to store your project in a Workspace slot, the code is transmitted and stored securely in our database (Supabase) to allow you cross-device access.
- Sharing: If you generate a shareable link, the associated code becomes accessible to anyone with the link. You maintain full control over what you choose to save or share while you have an active Pro subscription and access to that slot.
- Free Plan After Pro: If your subscription ends and your account returns to Free, you may access only the Free cloud save slots (currently slots 1, 2, and 3). Workspaces you saved in other slots while on Pro may remain in our database but are locked—you cannot load, save to, rename, delete, or change sharing settings for them until Pro is active again. We do not guarantee that locked slot data will remain available, intact, or recoverable while you are on Free. Back up Pro-slot workspaces locally before your paid period ends.
- Public Share Links on Locked Slots: If you enabled public sharing on a Pro-tier slot before returning to Free, that link may remain active; you cannot disable sharing while on Free. See our Terms of Service for limits.
- Infrastructure: Cloud slot data is stored using Supabase. RtlStudio does not operate that infrastructure directly; outages or data loss on Supabase’s systems are subject to the limitations described in our Terms and Section 6 below.
- Account Deletion: Permanently deleting your RtlStudio account removes all cloud save slots (including locked Pro slots), lecture progress, and related account records tied to that account from our active databases, except where retention is required for legal or tax compliance.
3. Premium Content (Lectures, Open IP & Pro Libraries)
RtlStudio Pro includes proprietary premium assets—video lectures (e.g., SV, UVM, AXI), the Open IP design library, and the SkyWater sky130 synthesis mapping library used for Yosys technology mapping. This section explains how we handle data related to those features:
- Entitlement & Delivery: Access is verified through your authenticated account (Supabase). Lecture videos, course materials, Open IP catalog metadata, and the sky130 liberty bundle are served from our hosted storage and content delivery infrastructure. Browsing the lecture curriculum or Open IP catalog does not transmit your private workspace RTL to our servers.
- Opening Examples Locally: When you open an Open IP example into your workspace, the associated design files are downloaded into your browser and executed under the same local-first WASM model described in Section 1. SkyWater sky130 synthesis runs the same way — liberty files are fetched into your browser tab; we do not run synthesis or simulation of your code on our servers.
- Access Metadata: To enforce Pro licensing, prevent abuse, and improve our curriculum, we may record minimal metadata such as which lecture modules, Open IP items, or Pro libraries (e.g., sky130 mapping) you accessed and when. This metadata is tied to your account and does not include the contents of your private workspace designs.
- Proprietary Content: Premium lectures, Open IP source files, and the bundled sky130 synthesis library are RtlStudio intellectual property for access-control purposes (upstream SkyWater PDK components remain under their open-source licenses). We do not sell access logs or viewing metadata to data brokers, and analytics providers listed in Section 6 do not receive lecture video content, Open IP source files, or your workspace RTL.
- Lecture Progress on Free: On Free, Verilog lecture progress remains visible in your account. Pro lecture tracks (e.g., SystemVerilog, UVM, AXI) and their stored progress may remain in your account but are hidden and not accessible until Pro is active again. Plan changes alone do not delete that progress, but we do not warrant it will remain available or recoverable while you are on Free.
- Refunded Accounts: If your account received a refund under our Terms, Pro repurchase on that account is blocked and Pro-tier cloud slots and Pro lecture progress may remain stored but are permanently inaccessible through RtlStudio.
4. Third-Party AI Integrations
When you choose to utilize our [AI Report] feature (or similar future AI APIs), the specific code snippets you select will be transmitted to external AI providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) to generate the requested analysis.
- We strictly utilize API endpoints with Zero Data Retention (ZDR) agreements.
- Your code is processed ephemerally and is never used to train our or third-party AI models.
5. Information We Collect
To provide authentication, process payments, and improve user experience, we collect minimal information:
- Account Data: Email address and basic profile information (via Google OAuth) strictly for authentication and account management.
- Payment Data: We do not collect, process, or store your credit card details or secure financial information on our servers. All payment transactions and invoicing are securely handled by our Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy, in compliance with PCI-DSS standards.
- Usage & Analytics Data: Login statistics, feature usage metadata (e.g., interaction with IDE components), premium lecture/Open IP access metadata (Section 3), and basic technical data (browser type, generalized location) to monitor and improve the platform’s performance.
- Cookies & Tracking: We use strictly necessary cookies for session management (via Supabase Auth). If you consent, we may use first-party or third-party analytics cookies to understand how you interact with our Service.
6. Third-Party Sub-processors
We share specific metadata with trusted providers acting on our behalf. We ensure they adhere to strict data protection standards:
- Lemon Squeezy: Merchant of Record, handling all secure payment processing, tax compliance, and billing.
- Supabase: Providing database, secure authentication infrastructure, and storage for workspace slots and premium educational content.
- Cloudflare: Managing web hosting, content delivery, and privacy-first traffic analytics.
- Analytics Providers: We may use tools (e.g., PostHog, Cloudflare Analytics, Google Analytics) to track generalized usage behaviors and fix UX bottlenecks. These providers do not have access to your private hardware design codes, lecture videos, or Open IP source files.
7. Your Data Rights (GDPR Compliance)
You have the right to access, rectify, or request the complete erasure of your personal data from our active databases (Right to be Forgotten). Upon request to our support team at info@semisgdh.com, or by using in-app account deletion, your account, all saved workspace slots (including locked Pro-tier slots), stored lecture progress, and associated premium access metadata will be permanently deleted, except where retention is required for legal or tax compliance by our payment processor.
We do not run third-party advertising networks, nor do we sell, rent, or trade your personal data to data brokers.
